In Round 17 of the All Flags State League competition, Western Knights easily won against Swan United FC and thereby continuing their winning streak. The victory enable the Knights team to stay in touch with the league leaders.

Knights put significant pressure on early. They even rattled the bar on one occasion; however, the pressure did not lead to an early goal.

Swan had an early chance as the broke away, attempting to score on the counter. A little touch from a Knight’s defender put an end to the attack though.

Jamie Ricks continued his excellent goal scoring form by scoring the first goal of the game. There was a number of rebounds in the box and Ricks was composed enough to get good contact on the ball and put it in the back of the net.

A few moments later, the spectators were treated with arguably the goal of the season. Johny Mirco collected the ball outside the box and took a few touches before smashing the ball right into the top corner. The shot was struck very sweetly and it flew into the goal with pinpoint accuracy.

The retaliation was immediate for Swan as they earned a freekick but the ensuing header from the cross hit the bar.

The third goal left the crowd speechless and stunned. The Swan keeper was forced to push up the ground to clear the ball but his clearance fell right to a Western Knights player’s feet. It was then passed out wide to Ricks who swung his right boot at the ball and the shot nestled in the goal from 35 yards out.

Josh Norgate scored his first goal of the season as Paul Lloyds corner found his head and Steve Purton finished off the emphatic win by scoring a good finish after Luka Jukic’s pass.
