Western Knights striker, Johny Mirco has finally been awarded the 2011 McInerney Ford Gold Medal by Football West at their 2012 Season Launch on Saturday night.
Mirco finished on equal votes as Balcatta’s Steve Burton at the end of the home and away season but under previous Football West rules lost on countback to Burton due to Burton’s higher number of man of the match performances during the 2011 season.
During the off-season, Football West agreed that this rule need to be amended so Mirco would be awarded a medal which he deserved.
Mirco becomes the third Western Knights player to claim the Gold Medal alongside previous winners, Paul Cooke and David Micevski.
