Gosnells City FC 0 Western Knights 5
In Round 8 of the All Flags State League Division 1 Competition, Western Knights travelled to Walter Padbury Reserve to face Gosnells City FC with the intent to continue their undefeated streak. The first real chance of the game came in the first few minutes and it fell to Dave Annall. A deep free kick was floated into the 6-yard box but Annall headed over the bar to the dismay of the supporters.
Another chance for Western Knights to take the lead followed soon after but once again the Knight’s were unable to capitalise as Jamie Ricks’ smashed the ball into the crossbar and the rebound fell to Ben Coulter whose shot hit the upright. Western Knights continued to threaten and eventually one of their attacks culminated in a goal as a deflected cross from a Gosnell’s defender found its way into the net.
At the beginning of the second half, Coulter was able to further the Knights’ dominance and the lead by chipping the Gosnell’s goalkeeper. The goals began to flow as a driven cross from Luka Jukic found Ricks who flicked the ball into the goal. In the next attack Paul Lloyd was able to grab a goal as Coulter was able to find him on the wing and Lloyd was able to find the slightest of spaces in the box before squeezing his shot in between the near post and the keeper.
Towards the end of the game, Coulter once again picked out Lloyd who was all alone on the touchline and it was relatively simple for him to drive into the box and put the ball into the side netting for the fifth goal of the game. This 5-0 result in favour of Western Knights proves they are the excellent side that everyone knew they would be and after a shaky start to the season they seem to be growing in confidence and momentum. The introduction of Coulter was evident and his presence was evident in this emphatic victory.
The next Western Knights game will be ay home against UWA Nedlands at Nash Field, Mosman Park on Saturday 14 June.
