Morley Windmills SC 1 Western Knights 5 Written by Daniel Bodycoat
In Round 5 of the All Flags State League Division 1 competition, Western Knights faced Morley Windmills Soccer Club. The game was riveting to watch from start to finish.
Within 10 minutes, the Knights had scored their first goal. It was created from Johny Mirco as he skipped past his defender and left Santos with the simple task of tapping the ball in the net for an early lead. Mirco on the left wing continued to be dangerous for Western Knights.
Further into the game, an immediate counter attack after a Morley corner fell to Nick Carroll’s feet and a beautiful pass put Paul Lloyd one on one with the keeper. It was no surprise, with the form that he is currently in, that he was able to finish and extend the lead to 2.
Lloyd continued his goal scoring form a mere moments later after finding himself with space outside the box. He would dribble past the first defender and fake another before curling the ball into the top corner. Lloyd continues to improve his already outstanding reputation. Western Knights looked unstoppable in the first half.
However, at the beginning of the second half a dubious handball decision was called against the Knights and the Morley striker slotted it home.
Without skipping a beat, the Knights players rallied to fight off the comeback and in the next possession of play, the ball found its way to Luka Jukic at the edge of the box and he would use all his experience to smash the ball in the bottom corner.
Towards the end of the game, a deflated Morley side fell victim to the persistent Western Knights pressure and Lloyd was able to complete his well-deserved hattrick.
This 5-1 result was testament to the true ability of the Western Knights team. They will look to ride this wave of momentum into their following games and with the return of Ben Coulter imminent, there is a very bright future for this football club.
Next up, the Knights take on Swan United this Saturday 24 May at the Swan Italian Club, Middle Swan.
